Menopause following cancer treatment can be particularly challenging. For many people, symptoms can be more abrupt, severe and complex to manage, while access to specialist menopause care remains limited.
That’s why we’re proud to support Menopause and Cancer, a non-profit organisation making a real difference to people’s lives.
Menopause can be triggered by cancer treatments including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, ovary removal and endocrine therapy, or by a hysterectomy where the ovaries are also removed. This can happen at any age and following treatment for different types of cancer.
For people who have already experienced menopause, treatment can sometimes mean facing symptoms again.
Yet access to specialist menopause care after cancer remains limited. NHS waiting lists can stretch up to 18 months, leaving many people feeling isolated, worried and unsure where to turn.
About Menopause and Cancer
Founded by Dani Binnington following her own experience of sudden menopause after a breast cancer diagnosis, Menopause and Cancer is a non-profit organisation providing expert-led support, community connection and practical guidance.
What began in response to a lack of support has grown into a trusted community working alongside NHS services, healthcare professionals and patient groups.
When the Henpicked team came across Menopause and Cancer, we felt compelled to help.
Through donations from our Menopause and Menstruation Friendly Employer Awards, we’ve been able to support its work to improve access to specialist care for people experiencing menopause following cancer.
Making a life-changing difference
Dani Binnington, Founder and CEO of Menopause and Cancer, explains just how much of a difference this funding is making. “Patients describe the clinic as life changing. For many, it is the first time they have felt truly seen, heard and understood.”
She shares the experience of one woman who had been considering stopping her endocrine therapy because the side effects had become so severe. Following her specialist appointment, she was given a personalised management plan that enabled her to continue treatment with a much better quality of life.
Another woman, Amanda, was diagnosed with cancer as a teenager and entered menopause in her twenties because of her treatment.
For years, she struggled, particularly with severe sexual health symptoms that affected every aspect of her life. Following her specialist appointment, she finally received the right treatment and support, transforming her symptoms, confidence and lifestyle.
These are just two examples of the difference that access to specialist care can make.
Direct human impact
Dani explains: “Henpicked’s support helped remove barriers to specialist care, improve quality of life, strengthen NHS capacity, enable people to stay on risk-reducing treatment and empower thousands of survivors. It has made a direct, human and transformative impact.”
“Thanks to the Menopause Friendly Employer Awards donation, we can now give cancer survivors rapid access to expert menopause care at a time when they would otherwise face long NHS waiting lists, limited specialist knowledge and no pre-treatment menopause planning.”
It’s a wonderful example of how the money raised through our Awards can translate into practical, meaningful support for people who need it.
You are not alone
Dani has a message for everyone who has helped make this possible:
“We are so grateful to have been chosen to benefit from the Menopause and Menstruation Friendly Employer Awards. Added to which, it’s wonderful to have our work recognised and supported in this way.”
And, importantly, a message for anyone experiencing menopause following cancer:
“Our clinic and support services are helping thousands of people affected by menopause and cancer. If that’s you or someone you know, please don’t suffer in silence. There is support available and you deserve to have your symptoms taken seriously. Seek specialist help, ask questions and remember, while your menopause journey may look different after cancer, you are not alone.”
